Electrical Shutdowns: Week of May 25

As previously noted in the Daily, Campus Services will continue performing electrical shutdowns from Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29, to perform critical upgrades. Faculty and staff should shut down all networked computers and miscellaneous equipment prior to any scheduled interruption. University Police will keep buildings locked until power has been restored.

Shutdowns during the week of May 26:

Tuesday, May 26, between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
A short-term shutdown of up to one hour in duration will affect the Sports Arena, Houston Gym, and Buckham Campus School. Individuals should plan to be out of these buildings by 6:00 p.m. on that day.

Wednesday, May 27, 5:00 p.m. to Thursday, May 28, 9:00 a.m.
Emergency power only will be provided to Tower 1, Tower 2, Tower 3, and Perry Hall between 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, and 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28. Individuals should plan to be out of these buildings by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday and to not reenter until 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Backup generator power will be provided for Moore Complex, Tower 4, and Science Building between 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, and 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28. Although the buildings will run on generator power, all individuals from these buildings should shut off all non-critical equipment in these buildings, including all networked computers.

Thursday, May 28, between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
A short-term shutdown of up to one hour in duration will affect the Sports Arena, Houston Gym, and Buckham Campus School. Individuals should plan to be out of these buildings by 6:00 p.m. on that day.

During the shutdowns, devices/appliances other than networked computers can remain in their normal operating state. After each interruption, some networked computers, especially those that were not powered down, may experience network connectivity issues after restarting. Such issues should be reported to the Computing Help Desk at ext. 4357.

Information about power interruptions will be posted at building entrances. Questions or concerns regarding these scheduled outages may be referred to Campus Services at ext. 6111.

Classified employees in buildings affected by the electrical shutdown may arrange with their supervisor to alter their work schedule in order to fulfill their work hours within the parameters of the shutdown or on any other days within the remainder of the payroll period. If such arrangements cannot be made, employees may charge any available leave accruals other than sick leave. Questions about classified staff work schedules may be directed to the Human Resource Management Office at ext. 4822.
