	2012-2013 Internal Control Summary and Certification&lt;br /&gt;
	From the Vice President for Finance and Management&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	Buffalo State submitted its 2012&amp;ndash;2013 Internal Control Summary and Certification to SUNY on April 5, 2013. This is a critical submission for the campus as it summarizes a year&amp;rsquo;s worth of internal control program activities, reviews, and audits.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
	At this time, staff in SUNY System Administration have completed review of all campus submissions and submitted SUNY&amp;rsquo;s agency-wide response to New York State.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Buffalo State&amp;rsquo;s submission and responses were found to adequately address the six requirements set forth in Budget Policy and Reporting Manual B-350 and full compliance has been recorded for the campus for the year ending March 31, 2013.&lt;br /&gt;
	Acceptance of Buffalo State&amp;rsquo;s certification by SUNY recognizes our comprehensive efforts to promote organizational efficiency and economy and encourage adherence to applicable laws, regulations, managerial policies and practices.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	As a member of the Buffalo State community, you should be aware that internal controls are everyone&amp;rsquo;s responsibility.&amp;nbsp; A copy of the campus submission is available on the Buffalo State Internal Control Program website. A change in your care provider is an eligible &amp;ldquo;change in status&amp;rdquo; event that allows you to enroll in the program outside of the open enrollment period. 	Because Microsoft will be discontinuing support for Windows XP after April 2014, and Apple will likely be discontinuing support for OS X 10.6 and earlier versions later this year, Computing and Technology Services is contacting the users of affected devices to discuss options for operating system upgrades or computer replacement.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	Operating systems that are not vendor supported are a risk to the campus network because of the discontinuation of security patches. If you are currently using a PC that was not upgraded to Windows 7 because of software or peripheral compatibility issues, CTS will work with you to determine the best option based on your needs.&lt;/p&gt;

	On Monday, May 20, Buffalo State will begin the second phase of&amp;nbsp;its&amp;nbsp;rehabilitation of underground utilities in and around Rockwell Quadrangle. Listed below are immediate impacts of the project on parking and pedestrian traffic. Please watch the &lt;em&gt;Daily&lt;/em&gt; &lt;em&gt;Bulletin&lt;/em&gt; for updates.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	&lt;strong&gt;Temporary Closure of Lot X: &lt;/strong&gt;Lot X will close on May 20 and will remain closed through summer 2013. The accessible northwest entrance to Rockwell Hall will be open through May 27, at which time accessible entry will be moved to the east doors and the northwest entrance will be closed.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	&lt;strong&gt;Temporary Closure of Portions of Lot W&lt;/strong&gt;: On May 20, about 75 percent of the parking spaces in Lot W will come off-line and will be unavailable through summer 2013. The remaining spaces will be those in the northern portion of the lot. The entrance to Lot W will be relocated to the northeast, and signage will be moved to the new entry point. Please reduce speed and drive with caution when approaching the relocated entrance.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	&lt;strong&gt;Temporary Closure of Various Building Entrances&lt;/strong&gt;: On May 20, the perimeter of the underground utilities construction area will be relocated, necessitating temporary closure of some building entrances. These doors will be unavailable for regular pedestrian traffic and will be used as emergency exits only:&lt;/p&gt;

	During the 2012&amp;ndash;2013 academic year, the College Senate Curriculum Committee halted all submissions of courses seeking IF designation. With the revision of the Buffalo State Student Learning Outcomes for the new Intellectual Foundations program (IF 2014) complete, we are ready to accept these submissions again, and in fact will make IF course submissions a priority in fall 2013. While we will continue to consider non-IF-designation courses and programs as time allows, we will give first consideration to IF 2014 courses and to courses and programs needed for accreditation. Please consider waiting to revise other courses in your department until spring 2014 or later. To facilitate the provost&amp;rsquo;s request for a fall 2014 implementation of the new IF program, associate deans should submit courses seeking IF 2014 designation to the Senate Office as early as possible in the fall semester. The goal of this forum is to develop, encourage, and support Buffalo State faculty and staff research and creativity, and to make collaborative research endeavors and grantsmanship more accessible. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other Buffalo State faculty and staff members and to identify common scholarly and creative interests you may have.&lt;br /&gt;

	All faculty and staff members are invited to organize an exhibit to present current research, creative activity, or other scholarship. Individual, departmental, or group exhibits are welcome. 	&lt;em&gt;From the Vice President for Finance and Management&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
	To comply with the New York State Commission on Public Integrity regulations (Title 19 NYCRR Part 930 of the Public Officers Law), the college is required to annually report honoraria received by full-time faculty members and professional and management/confidential employees; therefore, if you received an honorarium during the period April 1, 2012, through March 31, 2013, and did not request prior approval from your vice president or respective member of the President&amp;rsquo;s Cabinet, you are required to report the source, date, and amount of the honorarium received to your vice president or respective member of the President&amp;rsquo;s Cabinet by Friday, May 31.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	An honorarium is defined as &amp;quot;a payment, fee, or other compensation given to an individual for services rendered not related to the individual&amp;rsquo;s official state duties.&amp;quot; It also includes payment for travel expenses when the expenses incurred are unrelated to the employee&amp;rsquo;s duties.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	Examples of honoraria include compensation for delivering a speech, writing an article, or attending a meeting. Honoraria do not include salary, wages, or fees earned from outside employment. Faculty members are not required to declare honoraria received within their academic disciplines.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	Although reporting honoraria is required, obtaining prior approval of requests to receive honoraria is optional rather than mandatory; however, the college encourages employees to seek prior approval from the president&amp;rsquo;s designee (your vice president or respective member of the President&amp;rsquo;s Cabinet) before engaging in an activity that leads to the receipt of an honorarium.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

	May is blood pressure awareness month, and it is important to know your numbers when it comes to your blood pressure. Once again, Weigel Health Center is offering free ambulatory blood pressure monitoring for the end of the semester. Because it is such a busy time of year, we are extending this offer through the end of June.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	While blood pressure can change from minute to minute with changes in posture, exercise, stress, or sleep, it should normally be less than 120/80 mm Hg (less than 120 systolic &lt;em&gt;and &lt;/em&gt;less than 80 diastolic) for an adult age 20 or over. About one in three (33.5%) U.S. adults has high blood pressure; however, a&amp;nbsp;single high reading does not necessarily mean that you have high blood pressure.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	Even if your blood pressure is normal, you should consider making lifestyle modifications to prevent the development of&amp;nbsp;high blood pressure&amp;nbsp;and improve your heart health.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
	Start now and do your part by taking an active role in your health care. 	April 27 was National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Thirty-four drop-off locations in Western New York, including Buffalo State, accepted all prescription and over-the-counter medications from residential homes&amp;mdash;no questions asked&amp;mdash;for proper disposal. A total of 4,148 cars went through all the sites, turning in an astounding 12,604 pounds of drugs! Thank you to everyone who participated in this effort.&lt;br /&gt;

	Join us for Plein Air Watercolor Painting: In and around Burchfield&amp;rsquo;s Home at the Center with Rita Argen Auerbach, part of the International Center for Watercolor, on Saturday, May 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Studio Classroom.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

	Charles E. Burchfield found inspiration and motivation for painting outside his home. His home is also our museum. Participants will investigate around the grounds at the Burchfield Penney. The session will begin with a demonstration, followed by individual instruction while painting, and conclude with a group critique. The watercolor workshop is for artists of all levels. Participants are asked to bring their own painting supplies.&lt;br /&gt;

This session provides an opportunity for individual assistance as you work toward making your syllabus and other course content accessible. Bring your questions and a flash drive with your Word or PowerPoint files. Come for any portion of the help session in Bulger Communication Center 104.
